Coaching focus

Receive cleanly with pressure arriving from any angle

Objective

  • -Receive cleanly with pressure arriving from any angle
  • -Improve awareness of space before the touch
  • -Play out quickly under pressure

Setup

  1. 1A ring of servers with two receivers working inside in a 22 x 22 yards area.
  2. 2Split the group so the attacking side always has one spare player, and park the spare bibs on the halfway cone.
  3. 3Balls with alternate servers, bibs for the chasers.

How to play

  1. 1A server plays in and calls the receiver's name at the same time.
  2. 2The receiver must take a controlled touch and return the ball to a different server.
  3. 3Working players rotate out every 45 seconds.
  4. 4The spare player joins whichever side has the ball, so the attack always works with a plus-one.
  5. 5A goal or completed end action counts double if the spare player touched the ball in the build-up.

Coaching points

  • -Move to the ball rather than waiting
  • -Angle the body to see the next option

  • -Run the practice on the opposite side of the pitch
