Objectives

  • -Raise work rate through a game rather than laps
  • -Combine dribbling with changes of speed
  • -Keep young players engaged while they work hard

Setup

  1. 1Mark a 25 x 20 area with safe run-off space.
  2. 2Two or three taggers in bibs, each with a ball.
  3. 3Everyone else has a ball inside the area.

Coaching instructions

  1. 1Taggers dribble and try to tag other players who must keep their own ball.
  2. 2A tagged player joins the taggers for the rest of the round.
  3. 3Rounds of 90 seconds, then a drink and reset.

Coaching points

  • -Change speed to escape rather than running flat out
  • -Head up to find the biggest space
  • -Protect the ball with the body when cornered

Common mistakes

  • -Kicking the ball long and chasing it
  • -Hiding in a corner
  • -Barging instead of tagging
