Objectives

Setup

  1. 1A large possession area with two teams and neutral players in a 40 x 34 yards area.
  2. 2Add a neutral bounce player on each side line inside a marked yard-wide channel.
  3. 3Balls with the coach, two sets of bibs.

Coaching instructions

  1. 1Play possession in four-minute blocks with 90 seconds rest.
  2. 2The team out of possession must press for the full block.
  3. 3Rotate the neutrals so nobody rests inside the block.
  4. 4The first pass must go into the bounce player before the practice opens up.
  5. 5A sequence only scores when three different players have touched the ball.

Coaching points

  • -Move the ball to make the opposition run
  • -Press together to make it efficient
  • -Quality of pass holds up when tired
  • -Third player movement — the pass is set up by the run before it

Common mistakes

  • -Walking in possession
  • -Individual pressing that wastes energy
  • -Two players combining over and over while the third stands still
