Objectives

  • -Build endurance inside a football practice
  • -Keep decision quality high under fatigue
  • -Avoid running without a ball

Setup

  1. 1A large possession area with two teams and neutral players in a 36 x 30 yards area.
  2. 2Place a marker at every receiving position so players know where to set the ball before it arrives.
  3. 3Balls with the coach, two sets of bibs.

Coaching instructions

  1. 1Play possession in four-minute blocks with 90 seconds rest.
  2. 2The team out of possession must press for the full block.
  3. 3Rotate the neutrals so nobody rests inside the block.
  4. 4Ball enters from the coach and the first receiver is on two touches from that moment.
  5. 5Count completed sequences under the touch limit — best of three 3-minute rounds.

Coaching points

  • -Move the ball to make the opposition run
  • -Press together to make it efficient
  • -Quality of pass holds up when tired
  • -First touch out of the feet and into the direction of the next pass

Common mistakes

  • -Walking in possession
  • -Individual pressing that wastes energy
  • -Taking a settling touch that kills the tempo
