Objectives

  • -Create crossing chances with an overlap
  • -Deliver quality balls from wide areas
  • -Coach the timing of the run outside

Setup

  1. 1A wide channel with an overlapping start cone behind it in a 42 x 32 yards area.
  2. 2Load a ball at each starting station so the next rep can begin immediately.
  3. 3Balls at the winger's cone, keeper in goal.

Coaching instructions

  1. 1Winger receives, drives inside and sets for the overlapping runner.
  2. 2The overlapping player delivers first time or after one touch.
  3. 3Two attackers arrive at near post and penalty spot.
  4. 4As soon as one sequence ends, the next server plays in without waiting.
  5. 5Run 4-minute blocks and count total completed sequences as a squad score.

Coaching points

  • -Set the ball into the runner's path
  • -Cross past the first defender
  • -Runners attack, don't stand
  • -Reset fast — the value is in the volume of good reps

Common mistakes

  • -Overlap run too early
  • -Crossing straight to the keeper
  • -Long queues while balls are collected
