Objectives
- -Defend repeated waves of attack
- -Attack quickly against a settling defence
- -Build game-realistic repetition
Setup
- 1A half pitch with attacking waves waiting on halfway in a 43 x 32 yards area.
- 2Add one extra defender to the working area and mark their start position with a flat cone.
- 3Balls with each wave, keeper in goal, two sets of bibs.
Coaching instructions
- 1The first wave attacks the defenders and the goal.
- 2The moment the ball is dead the next wave attacks immediately.
- 3Defenders stay on for three waves before rotating.
- 4The attacking group starts a player short, so every entry pass has to be sharp.
- 5Defenders score a point for every clean turnover; attackers need three clean end actions to win the round.
Coaching points
- -Defenders reset the line between waves
- -Attackers strike before the defence is set
- -Communicate the new picture every wave
- -Protect the ball and wait for the second runner rather than forcing it
Common mistakes
- -Waves waiting too long
- -Defenders not resetting shape
- -Trying to beat two players instead of releasing early
