Objectives

Setup

  1. 1Pitch with five yard wide channels down each side.
  2. 2One free wide player per team in each channel.
  3. 3Two full goals with keepers.

Coaching instructions

  1. 1Goals from a cross count double.
  2. 2Wide channel players are unopposed.
  3. 3Five minute games with a short rest.
  4. 4All restarts are played as in a match — throw-ins, goal kicks and corners rather than a coach ball.

Coaching points

  • -Get the ball wide early when the middle is blocked
  • -Attack near post, penalty spot and back post
  • -Deliver first time when the runners are moving
  • -Shape up quickly on every restart
  • -Talk to organise before the ball is live

Common mistakes

  • -Nobody attacking the far post
  • -Crossing with no one in the box
  • -Wide players taking too many touches
